How to Add Thermostats to Your Quotes

Written by Parker McNally
Updated over a month ago

In our latest update, we’ve simplified the quoting workflow by removing the standalone "Thermostats" section. You can now add thermostats directly as Equipment line items within each tier.

This change ensures that your thermostats are correctly categorized, priced according to your markup rules, and paired perfectly with the specific system you’re quoting.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Navigate to Equipment Selection

While building or editing a quote, go to the tier where you want to add a thermostat (e.g., Tier 1 / Best).

2. Add a New Equipment Line

  • Scroll to the Equipment section of that tier.

  • Click + Add Equipment.

  • Change the Equipment Type to Thermostat

3. Search and Select Your Thermostat

  • Type the name or model of the thermostat (e.g., "Ecobee Smart" or "Sensi Touch") into the search bar.

  • Select the correct item from your uploaded price book.

  • Note: If the item is categorized as a thermostat in your database, SetSale will ensure it is placed correctly within the equipment list for that tier.

  • The price will automatically reflect the cost and markup rules defined in your Price Drivers.

Why the Change?

  • Better Organization: Keeping the thermostat within the Equipment section ensures it is treated as a core component of the system install rather than an afterthought.

  • Accuracy: It prevents common mistakes where a high-end communicating thermostat might be forgotten in a premium system quote.

  • Clean Proposals: On the customer-facing side, the thermostat appears as a professional line item alongside the other equipment items

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if I want the thermostat to be an optional add-on? A: If you want the customer to choose whether or not to buy the thermostat, add it to the Upgrades section instead of the Equipment section.

Q: I can't find my thermostat in the search bar. What do I do? A: Ensure the thermostat is included in your price book. If you recently added new equipment items, you may need to re-upload your price book or manually add the item under Settings > Equipment.
