How to Combine Repair and Replace Options in a Single Quote

In this article, we’ll show you how to use the new Repair and Replace workflow. This feature allows you to present a customer with the cost of a mechanical repair alongside the value of a full system replacement, all within the same professional proposal.

Why Combine Repair and Replace?

Often, a customer isn't sure if they should fix their aging unit or invest in a new one. By showing both options side-by-side, you help them see the long-term value of a replacement while providing a transparent price for the immediate fix.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Start Your Quote

  • Create a new quote from the Dashboard.

  • Choose the requested System Template, and enter the desired specs.

2. Designate the Tier Type

For each tier in your quote, you can now decide if it represents a "Repair" or a "Replace" option.

  • To set a Repair Tier: Select the Edit System pencil and choose Repair.

  • To set a Replacement Tier: Select the Edit System pencil and choose Replace. (this is usually the default when building quotes).

3. Customize Tier Names

You aren't stuck with "Basic" or "Federal Minimum." You can now rename these tiers on a per-quote basis to fit the specific situation.

  • Click into the Tier Name field.

  • Rename the repair tier to something like "Current System Repair" and the replacement tiers to something like "High-Efficiency Upgrade."

4. Add Services vs. Equipment

  • For Repair Tiers: Use the Services section to add the specific repair tasks (e.g., "Blower Motor Replacement"). These costs will be bundled into that specific tier's price.

  • For Replace Tiers: Select your equipment packages as usual. You can still add Services (like "Permit Fees") or Upgrades (like "Air Purifiers") to these tiers.

5. Preview the Comparison

Click Preview Quote to see how the options look side-by-side.

  • The quote will clearly distinguish between the repair and replacement options.

Managing Templates in Settings

If you frequently offer a "Repair vs. Replace" scenario, you can set up a System Template to save time.

  1. Navigate to Settings > System Templates.

  2. Create a new template called "Repair vs. Replace."

  3. Pre-set your bottom tier as a "Repair" type and your top three tiers as "Replace" types.

  4. Now, every time you use this template, your tiers are already labeled and ready for your specific line items.

Pro Tip: The "Anchor" Effect

By placing a high-cost repair next to a monthly financing option for a new system, the replacement often becomes the more attractive financial decision for the homeowner. Use the Financing toggle to show how affordable a new system can be compared to a one-time repair bill.
